Village Tour (Sirince) |

Sirince is a
wonderful little Aegean village
of 600 inhabitants. It is located in the
hills at about 350 meters (1000 ft) above
sea level, at 30 minutes drive from Kusadasi
and it is a typical example of old villages
in Anatolia.
Sirince was originally a Greek Village. As
part of the peace settlement after the
Greeks were defeated in Turkey in 1922, a
formal exchange of populations was agreed
upon. As a result Turkey received about
500.000 Muslim Turks from Greece in exchange
for nearly 2 millions Greeks who had been
displaced since 1912. The Greek population
of the Sirince Village migrated to Greece as
part of this exchange program.
Most of the houses in the
village date from the 19th century or
earlier. They were built at a time when
Sirince was predominantly a Greek village.
Today the village is under conversation to
retain its authentic appearance.
The village lies in a lovely bowl of hills
surrounded by peach orchards, vineyards and
olive groves. The higher hills are covered
with pine forest. Nearly all houses command
a pastoral panorama extending over many
miles, undisturbed by any modern
development.
Some tourism has
unfortunately come into the village in
recent years, bringing with it souvenir
shops, a dozen restaurants and a few
guesthouses. But farming remains the
principal activity. Villagers make
wine and olive
oil, and grow some of the
best peaches in the country. They greet
strangers with a smile and very often invite
them in for a cup of tea |

Sirince is an amazing place
This is the tour to see the way how Turkish
villagers live. The tours starts ≈ 10.00 hrs
with picking you up from your hotel. On the way
to Sirince we have a short stop in Kirazli
Village, at a café, for an opportunity of local
contact with friendly and hospitable villagers.
You can take a walk among the nearby hillside
vineyards and orchards. Here we also have a
visit to the mosque.
Then we continue our way to Sirince. First we
stop for lunch and then we visit the old
churches of the village. All the narrow streets
of the village belong to the women, selling
handcrafts of all kinds, olive oil. Last on our
itinerary is a stop at a typical Turkish
family’s house – don’t miss the opportunity to
have a cup of Turkish coffee or tea or to taste
the local wine !
The tour finishes ≈16.00 with
dropping you off at your hotel in Kusadasi. |
